Edna Marie Holistic Haven was created from the founder Edna Owens’ own personal weight loss experience. She figured out how to successfully lose weight and recomposition her body in the process. She has lost over 35 lbs naturally and has documented her entire journey.
Her primary focus is helping people reach their overall health and wellness goals by showcasing whole food recipes and good meals that heal! Edna guided her mother to remission from Type 2 diabetes and a 20 pound weight loss milestone. She firmly believes in her method of improving metabolic health with food, intermittent fasting and self care.
Like most young women I grew up managing my life the best way that I could, not knowing that one day those values will mean so much more than just motivating words to tell a kid. Growing up I played soccer, ran track and most of all I was a singer, still am. I ate regular home cooked meals and on rare occasions we had fast food like all families do. We had ice cream trucks and all the fun school parties for Pagan holidays, you know, the typical life growing up. As I became an adult and had to maneuver the ins and outs of college, work, and social life, I began to pile on weight, feeling sluggish and just older than I was. I developed high blood pressure at 25, an illness I was told since I was a child that I would inherit eventually and never get rid of, but later in life would find out that is not true.
I always read and researched the latest diets, weight loss remedies and gadgets. I always knew how to hold my weight and my face card never declined, but at some point I became so uncomfortable in my skin. Overindulging in alcohol and stressful food management with ultra processed carbs only made matters worse. Being in fixer upper relationships and holding on for the sake of holding on did not serve me either. I did not realize just how much it all was affecting me negatively. I have battled depression, low self worth and frustration all while wearing an invisible smiley mask at work.
A few years down the road I became involved as a Beachbody Coach and learned about their signature shake and all the health benefits. Long story short I was a huge advocate for the product because I valued the benefits in the ingredients.
Needless to say, the Beachbody thing came and went for me but it is significant to mention because it awakened a deep love and interest in learning all I could about real food ingredients (accompanied with physical activity) could transform and shift my whole world and make my life better.
I improved my health overall and I love to share my experiences (and recipes too!) with Keto and Low Carb Living with the ambition to help other people straighten their crown and live their best life. My path to learn about it all began in July 2016. I began looking for ways to make low carb pizza because pizza is my FAVORITE food! I also wanted to find other recipes that did not make me feel deprived.
Truth is, I have always had a passion for health and fitness. I have been on the weight gain/loss roller coaster more than I could count. I would research and read up on health and weight loss, but much of what I found was not adding up to long term results when I would apply it to my own life. But in the summer of 2016, everything changed…. While looking for low carb recipes, I started noticing a lot of information coming up about the ketogenic lifestyle and intermittent fasting. I was intrigued. I started watching videos and reading all the books that I could find. And then the dots started to connect. So much of the literature mirrored what I had been suffering from or had seen my close family members have to deal with daily. I felt euphoric, relieved and sad all at the same time. Needless to say, I jumped right in by trying different food recipes and I started to lose weight. Not only that, my self love and self care improved tremendously. I had energy and my confidence was on the mend. Most importantly, I finally found a way that I can eat for a lifetime without feeling deprived. Now that my metabolism is corrected I can eat what I chose within reason and not veer off the road because my FOUNDATION is solid in whole foods that are nutritious. I never thought that my body would crave certain healthy foods over processed stuff.
There is always opportunity for a teachable moment.
I continue to share how the foods we consume, directly correlates with our hormones and our well being, which in turn affects our overall health significantly! Fast forward a couple of years later, I decided to commit fully to my health and wellness. I was equipped with more education and a fierce mindset! I have always posted about my health journey in one way or another by posting my meals, running for exercise and contributing to social media health groups, and my own social media pages. I realize now that I will always share the good news with others and thanks to God for giving me the courage to make my passion into my business, that I can share for a lifetime.
